in the shadows

Your shadow's force,
it calls to me across cold centuries in ghostly tongues
of Beltane fires lost to threadbare memories,
as if by force of pain I could rebuild Beli's shattered groves
by casting off the stain of Roodboy's cross
to drive Maypole's shaft deeply welcome
into soft and fertile Mother Earth,
all of it,
shreds of love's glorious lie.

Tears ripped from me unexpectedly today,
whether surge or purge,
too far from sanity to say I am not a weeper,
not prone to shedding tears,
it was carelessness
I think I'd let strength of grasp on my emotions shrink,
until held a bit too lightly for the task;
I remembered older dying times running
through moon swept terror sounds,
too soft red whisky sounds,
sounds woven in thin ribbons of Spring's remorseless winds,
dogs baying off in distance loft
as if hounds of Hell in joyful dance
were saying they could run me down
before the leap,
before the chance of soaring over sacred Fire.

Lay it gently down sweet Lady lay it down,
beautiful dreamer wallowing
in plight of hopeless loving
yearning for burning joining of loins
in welcoming the Mother after drawing down the Moon;

ignoring pain of all the hopelessly loved,
as vision's edge patiently awaits flowers in season
the dead are far too busy for indulgences of taste,
like seasoning sweetbreads with reality
life is often naught but chewing food's memory;

so bend soft licking flames of ritual cast through time,
sing in lovely sting of celebration washed within
savor clench of passion pure in soul's desire,
drawn sure in dripping wax of awakening Wildcat Moon,
joined in Beltane's unabashed fire.

sounds woven in thin ribbons of Spring's remorseless winds,

This is a brilliant work, dear Charly. Past and present events/emotions masterfully rendered in every line.

Love,
Margherita

Charly...When a poem is more than thought or feeling, but knowledge also...thank you for going there so often.
