It's an English garden of roses and blossoms
in an aloe, rock and drought land.
It's the rain that falls softly in a world of thunder, storms.
It's unheard of, it's far away.

Walk through the garden, smell the moist earth
the delicacy, promise of life.
As the drought enfolds, dream of the rain.
As the rain withholds, dream of the rain.

And rain in a storm, a torrent of thunder and storm and light
a dream, jerked to reality.
Damage done, but we've won.
Reality is rain, storm,
rain.
And rain will nurture
and a garden will grow
in the desert.

Not an English garden of roses and hollyhocks and blossoms
of delicacy
but a garden of
wildflowers and strength that perhaps
will not yield.

Whoa! Had me going there with the English Garden throwaway. A garden is a garden is a garden as that famous woman might have said. Me? I like cacti gardens. I suppose because it is more on the reality level in that, although it can be very eye-catching, be very careful as you walk through it for it has thorns.

~ PIn my house there's this light switch that doesn't do anything. Every so often I would flick it on and off just to check. Yesterday, I got a call f

English gardens, IIRC, are more to nature and hardier for their climate than certain other types of gardens, but the scrublands analogy you make here is well-taken. Enjoyed reading this.

Thank you for the comments I'm sure an english garden is more hardy than I give it credit for! In this poem though, I was referring more to a semi-arid area where anything struggles to grow and that mainly receives rain through thunderstorms, not gentle rain. Sometimes that's how life is.

All gardens are precious, but when the rain  transforms an arid ground into a garden, then it's a very special gift and blessing.

Beautiful!

Love,
