does his mornings down at the bayou now
sipping dirty sock coffee
keeping his teeth yellow brown
but the mud bugs don't mind

the sassy girl, too young for preying
but he does ask god for a dance
and she hears his money music
gives him some belly rub slow soul

he wrote books til a year ago maybe more
about poetry and love and die lies
published them out at the random house
paid his own bill and gave em the paper

bought the only copy ever sold too at amazon
but it was a signed original
and had his own name on the cover
along with photos he took

of his ego and his lady before she died

Very sad, Dark, but too true of too many lonely souls, I would guess.  Beautifully portrayed.

One can only wonder at what he missed out on while cuddling up to his ego.  A sad but true slice of life, Mr. Dark.

This made me think of Rick Bragg...
I think you'd enjoy his work...
but more likely the mama that raised him.

Good to read you, Sir...
it's been far too long.

Life stirs even in autumn ...

This is so beautiful. I tiptoe silently out of the melancholy that permeates this precious work.
