This came to me in the middle of the night.

Nebraska man

In the earliest part of the last century,
The search for human origins was hot all over the world.
Many countries vied for the honor,
Whether by fair means or fowl,
To show they were the birth place of the human race.
The Germans claimed Neanderthal was the first human.
In China they found, who else, .. Peking man,
Discovered in a run down prehistoric Chinese restaurant,
A fortune cookie still in his fossilized hand.
On Java they found … uh … Java man.
The Britz allegedly found a fossil they called Piltdown man,
(which turned out to be a painted collection of common animal parts)

said to be the first human,
To show the first man was an Englishman.
And the Americans? …They found a fossil they called Nebraska man.
Alas, for the poor Americans,
Nebraska man was revealed to be a hoax,
But, while he lasted, he got to be pretty famous.
Nowhere in the scientific literature
Is there any reference to Kansas man.
Despite the fact that the Wizard of OZ
Turned out to be a Kansas man.
Not only has Kansas man never been discovered,
Kansas man has never even been sought;
Which partly explains why he has never been found.
Mrs. Sunshine claims to know
Of the existence of Kansas man,
But she consistently refuses to talk
To the scientific community.
She swears that no scientist will ever make her talk,
That she will never show them the fossils
That would either prove or disprove the existence of Kansas man.
If pressed, Mrs. Sunshine will say
That she did marry him.
But without the scientific evidence … well, …
The scientific community will never find him.

Maybe they are looking down in Texas.
But then he would be TEXAS MAN.
HEEEEEEeeeEy!!!
The first man was a
TEXAN!!!!
