Set me free to roam
amongst the verdant, verdigris canopy,
flitting weightlessly between breaking buds,
sipping nectar from transient blooms.

Let me squander my days
inspired by silken, supple wings
On high, through veiled gauze
slipping seamlessly, silently, unseen ghost.

Watch me dive from heights
with dizzying speed, apricot crop
filled rising again phoenix like
to soar aloft once more.

Hear me whistling past, my
speed subsonic, profile delta winged,
prey fixed in topaz glare
unflinching strike, death feeds life.

What a dynamite and rugged poem, naturegirl. You strike a chord with every wanderlust who will come upon this piece. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

hello khatadin, yes I started thinking about the hummingbird, they fascinate me as they defy gravity and then I moved onto butterflies & birds, and a sort of theme life>death>life evolved although I didn't realise until it was written. Thank you for reading.
