Boys aren't supposed to be like girls,
And walk around wearing lace and pearls,
Only girls are supposed to pitch a bitch,
What boys get to have is severe jock itch.

Boys aren't supposed to be boys and fight,
They're supposed to say everything's all right.
Boys are not supposed to have moody times,
To do so would be almost like a crime.

I wonder what boys are supposed to do?
Teacher gives him Ritalin, that's mind glue.
To make him less like a boy, more like sis,
And some of them fall into the abyss.

It's okay for girls to act tough like guys,
Teachers reprimands him to make him cry

I assume the bigger picture you are opening the door on is the changing role men are playing in society. Back in the day when men were men and women were women, life was a lot less complicated....we've become over medicated as a society in trying to deal with the stresses of modern day's rapid changes.

Hey very nice.
I'm so glad I don't have sever jock itch.
I went to high school in the 1950's.
It was a different world then.
Fights took place in the school parking lot after classes. I was in several. The teachers didn't interfer.
So it's a little hard for me to identify with your frustrations.
But I like your poem anyway.
Keep writing.

Thanks, Lori, I appreciate your comments . . .

Duck, it isn't that I am frustrated, like Lori said, when I went to school boys were boys and girls were girls. It is just the "management" of boys for the last few decades by feeding them drugs to calm them down. Back in my day they calmed us down differently. All I was saying was that society has redefined the role for males in this country, hence the term, Metro Man.

JP - It seems history has proven over and over that empires begin their decay from the inside out. The morality perverts, right and wrong blurs and gender choice confuses. What will tomorrow bring! I liked this JP. It's deep on many levels and makes you think. Namyh

It is frightening to imagine how adults face the vividness (physical and intellectual)
of children, by giving them drugs that can create dependency and as you say make "some of them fall into an abyss".

I appreciate your work, dear Jerry. No doubt the roles of men and women (alias girls and boys) have greatly changed and in the process of adaptation many have difficulty in recognizing their true nature.

Very well done and thought provoking.

Love,
Margherita

Love this intriguing write Jerry, society never lets boys be boys, is very true. They do put such boys through drugs and sedate them.
