I remember that stream down from caliente
how it used to tell stories to the stones
and the douglas fir tree audiences

mostly in afternoons when the sun was behind
some dark green hill side sofa reclining
perhapsing a nap before dinner with evening

some sundays we would find gold stones there
under the brim where the swimming rainbows hid
you said they gave you chills when they swam

I pretended it was me that made you shiver
and I would buy you presents with my gold
when we were both older, maybe even twelve

and that your red wagon was mine too sometimes

Remembrance of bygone days can be such a wonderful thing, remembering all the gold you had in your possession.

~ At the siege of Vienna in 1683 Islam seemed poised to overrun Christian Europe. We are in a new phase of a very old war. ~

So young to be coveting another's wheels.  Love this one - it is beautiful.  It also that humor that I have grown to love.  Perhaps a bit of irreverance.  Yep, that's it.

D ~

I love this poem, especially this part.

quote:
I remember that stream down from caliente
how it used to tell stories to the stones
and the douglas fir tree audiences

mostly in afternoons when the sun was behind
some dark green hill side sofa reclining
perhapsing a nap before dinner with evening

Truly beautiful, this is.

PS ~ I know I already responded to it once, but this poem is worth coming back to many times.
