I have two piles of bricks
called He Knew and Didn't Do
and I think to fashion them
into a fortress round my soul.

No drawbridge 'cause I know
foundations laid on ego beds
will soon one day collapse
and let the loving in.

Still and all, I think to be
the architect of stubbornness
and engineer of righteousness
here on my pedestal.

Brick on brick, brick on brick,
how useless building what will fall
yet build I do with no drawbridge
to my own off-centre plans.

Only when I'm balanced
twixt this world and the next
can I rest beside still waters
and suffer your meanderings ~
but I have two piles of bricks!

Neatly conceived... I might know somebody like this, maybe that dawdler in the mirror.

Helen, you keep coming up with the darnedest poetry. Your way with a phrase is just wonderful, slightly askew and very deep. Enjoy the hell out of reading you.

I love what you come up with, it's the piecing of your emotions,
or shall I say stacking them to build such fascinating poetry.
I'm really taken with your insight and self expression.

good good, honey girl~

Thank you easy1.  They do say that everyone else is just a mirror of ourselves.  I haven't yet come to grips with that except to rationalize it by thinking that we're all "capable" of doing what the other does.

Jerry - If I was inclined to blush then I'd be blushing but as it is 'tis just a bit of water in my eyes.  Thank you so much.

Dear Bluesy gal - You're perhaps my only long-standing reader (so many years) and I hope you know how grateful I am for that.  I wouldn't be on the blue pages if not for you so when I say 'thank you' please know that it's for more than just your comment.  Thank you!

Love

I built a castle like this, a long time ago...

... I thought I needed it.

the mortar's been getting a little weak in some spots lately...

I think I going to leave it alone, and if it falls, then so be it, I'll finally be free.

This was great Helen

Richard - It will fall!  If it doesn't you can ... sue me!     Glad you enjoyed!

The thing that bothers me is 'I knew - and Didn't do" - and all the effort possible can never replace the moment past.

Very well spoken piece, my friend...much enjoyed the read.

Thanks, JW.  We're all guilty of the knowing and not doing but although I know moments past won't come again, they can be overcome with love and forgiveness.  Sadly, a lot of us, myself included, are guilty of not loving and not forgiving.

Hi Lori.  Thanks for popping in and, yes, the different flavours of love - so many.

Dear Bunches of Honey, your poetry is highly distinctive and uniquely your own. I like how you wrap your poetic brain around your thoughts, ideas, and emotions. Yours is not the run-of-the-mill poetry. You put a lot of thought into it and it always makes me think. You don't spoon-feed the reader! lol

Love 'n hugs,

Oh, my dear Linda, you made me smile because, no, I don't spoon feed and (I'll tell you a secret) I don't put much thought into what I write.  It just comes all by itself - well, okay then, by myself.

I thought of you today wondering how you are and then up you pop!  So good to see you here!  Thank you for your lovely comment. I do hope you are progressing well.

Thanks, Steaven. I've got it!  You were chuckling because like many of us you also knew and didn't do.   Glad you enjoyed and that you chuckled!

Thanks, ER.  The human condition - yes, so varied and diverse it is.  Gotta just laugh at it all!

Someday, someone's gonna take a few bricks out from the bottom and there you'll be wrapped in the arms of destiny, smile on smile.

I know these things, a licensed emotional structural engineer.
That'd be me.

Eric - - Had to laugh at your reply - thanks for that.  I have a little problem with destiny though - is there such a thing or are we the construction crew responsible for it?
