~

The one thing a child does enjoy
What makes them quiet, calm, meek, and coy
What occupies a small schoolboy
What is a childhood toy

A great red truck,
A small pink doll,
To a child, their toys are
greatest of them all

A dozen wooden blocks,
Three monkey’s made out of warm socks,
And even simpler things as these,
A collection of shining rocks

A puddle full of homemade ships,
A string made out of paperclips,
Pure yet, and spreading no gossip
A child and his toys are joined at the hip

The one thing a child does enjoy
What makes them believe that they are great envoys
What occupies a small schoolboy
What is a childhood toy

Toys R Us is such a true statement. When we are young we play with the red trucks and the pink dolls. When we're older we play with the corvette and hunks in torn jeans. Toys. Loved the correlation in this poem.

"To a child, they’re toys are"
I would change "they're" to their.

~ Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway? ~

Thank you for pointing the 'they're' out, I didn't even notice it! =)

Delightful, Lilee.  Yes, although I am 65, I remember being deeply immersed in and bonded with so many of my most loved toys - it was as though they became companions.
