Black Inc I played with the kids’ kits Years ago, cops and robbers And I was always the good gal Who helped the police Take fingerprints… It was fun and innocent and Educational…especially when The bad guys were really bad… And it could be wondered, did We gear them mentally… I don’t know, but it was a Memory that came back to me As I hied my hide Down to the local police department This morning An applicant for voluntary fingerprinting Giving absolute discretion to The hiring company to check out My background. Not scary, No intimidation on my part Until The officer said, “I have to control your fingers, Lady…loosen up.” He was nice enough, polite enough, Still, to give someone control Of where my fingers had to go Was foreign to me… I thought of how difficult it Would be to give over my life Under such circumstances While extending My middle finger. © KRJ 4-1-11 |
