don't laugh
when I tell you I've always loved you
I know
you don't think you know me
but I know you
I've known you all my life
can't you understand
can't you see what I see in my eyes
I have always loved you
yes
we have been through so much together
and . . .
although the highways
and byways and mountains
and the seas
have conspired to keep us apart
we have forever known each other
we've looked beseechingly
toward distant shores
as the sun sank in the west
we have squinted
hoping that the next dawn
will be the one we share together
I have loved you from afar
yes, I say again
we have been through so much together
don't you remember
when you were in grade school
the little freckled-faced boy who sat behind you
dipped your pigtails in the inkwell
I was somewhere tormenting a little girl just like that
hoping for a glance
a smile
and don't you remember when you were eighteen
and the handsome boy
took you to the Senior Banquet
you stopped on some lonely road
on the way home
you cried and told the handsome boy
you were saving yourself
for the love of your life
well, darling
I am here
the love of your life
for . . .
I've loved you forever
as least ever since I stuck
that little girl's pigtails in the inkwell
yes
it is I
it is really me
I'm the little freckled-faced boy
that used to torment you
oh
don't cry
I love you too

How sweet and romantic Jerry!  I think you are on a roll with this nostalgia.

Hah! Nostalgic is about all I have left. Still, after saying that, I have just started a screenplay (my first), so I'm still looking ahead. Thanks, Lori.
