Birdsong
by Linda L. Dowd

I awoke to the cooing
Of a dove on the sill,
And to the sweet melody
Of a meadowlark's trill.

The robins were chirping
As they welcomed in spring,
And from up in the treetops,
Tiny sparrows did sing.

The mew-calls of catbirds
And the buntings’ loud voicing,
Joined the musical refrains
Of birdsong rejoicing.

Goldfinches did twitter,
Hummingbirds hummed in tune,
With thrushes and starlings
And the lone call of loon.

The orioles were whistling
As scarlet tanagers sang,
And all through the morning
Their sweet musicals rang.

Chickadees and blackbirds
And cardinals and jays,
Joined the chorus of warblers
In a sing-song of praise.

I awoke to a morning
Filled with glorious singing,
Of songbirds rejoicing
What the new day was bringing.

Think happy! ~ Be happy!”

Oh man, I gotta go with what dreamgirl said.  Your voice soothes me and the package of poetry, art and music is breathtaking.  You are the most special Linder Lou that I know.

I love you and thank this gift and all the gifts that you have shared with us.

Very, very beautiful, as always, Linda - and such a great treat to have you back -  I keep saying that, it must be getting irritating, but I keep thinking it and the words come out before I can stop them!

I can feel just how very happy, blessed and grateful you are to be "back", in every sense of the word.  Your joy is just bursting/busting out all over - what is that song, something about "June is busting out all over"?  I can hear the tune of that line, but the rest of the song and the tune escapes me.

Spring winging.  Hello, Luv!  I saw two gargantuan robins hunting for food in my front yard today.  In winter, what I see most is crows.  They sit like black-hooded druids on the phone wires and cables in the neighborhood.  I have also seen hummingbirds in the holly tree!

I adored the sweet sound of your voice and the feathered harbingers of spring are so welcome!  Thank you for sharing your art!

Linda - this only proves that it does not need to be a morning in a woods to hear the 'birdsong' - reading your poem fullfilled that.

Oh, dearest Linda, how absolutely lovely. You are the conductor of this concert, your words convey the deepest praise for Nature's precious divine gifts.

Your voice is a caress of love.

Such a joy filled reading and listening experience!

Thank you so much for the heart lifting performance.

Love and hugs.

certainly the 'distilled essence' of Spring mornings!:

fine 'write' !

Alison ~ my adorable Lasky Girl

I'm tickled pink that you enjoyed 'the whole enchilada', as they say!
I often sit out in my yard and listen to the birds and try to differentiate their particular songs. I find them very soothing as well.

Love you a bushel and a peck,
Linder Lou

Maga Margherita la Senorits que Bonita ~

My dear Dolphina, I got a little chuckle out of your comment about me being the conductor of this concert! Oh, if only I could be one! Mind you, I think Our Heavenly Conductor of Heaven and Earth does a pretty good job of it Him/Herself! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this concerto I put together ~ on paper! lol

Thank you, once again, for a truly lovely response to one of my 'avianic' offerings!

Love you lots too! :loveya!

Yann the Mann ~

Hey, the birds are returning home to the city to roost! I'd say that is a good sign! Of course, there could be those who take an entirely different spin on that and would say your neighborhood is going to the birds! I know, that's a groaner! Oh well, what would you except from a silly bird such as myself! lol

Hugs 'n chirps,

Greetings! I enjoy waking to the sound of birds, as well! When I was younger, they annoyed the dickens out of me when I wanted to sleep in on the weekend. But now, I am filled with joy when I hear their tweet voices! I have a pair of doves that often come and sit on my window sill and they 'talk' to me often! What a delight!

It was very good to hear from you!

Birds are our friends and there is always at least one nearby!

Tweetings, my dear Ida Belle! It's curious that you would say that the birds were singing their songs for me ~ because that is what it feels like! lol

May the merriment of birds light up your life!
