treading soft up to the night
unto a star which to alight
it matters not which star to choose
for in their glow all disabuse
man and beast of earthly learnings
no more to ache of mortal yearnings
is not sky's blue but a facade
as was the gild of priest's ephod
midnight's beckon all proceed
into dark depth's of midnight's screed
whirling dervish, Charybdis
into the void of night's abyss

I agree with BluesS, this leaves me pondering quite a few things...which is a good thing.
Enjoyed.

From bright to dark this evokes many images of deadly progress.
Strong poetry to consider.

For some strange reason, Tim, I began to think of C.S. Lewis' "The Space Trilogy" as I read this interesting and deep poem. I think it was the unbelievable tone (in my opinion) of the poem. At any rate, I very much like your wordplay.
