I was eight; mother's
was a tense, mortified look,
at the cop station
...assured no more partaking
no more others' apple trees

. . . and I have a feeling you didn't go back to those apple trees . . . in my neck of the woods it was watermelons . . . we'd sneak in the patch, usually at night and feast on watermelon heart . . . leaving the rest to rot . . . kids, whadda ya gonna do with em . . . bust their little rumps, that what . . . . . .

To end up at the cop station for a few apples is mortifying indeed. You described that moment intensely, dear Spiros.

You made me remember my own childhood experience when we reached for cherries along the way to school and a furious peasant ran after us with a raised hay fork, shouting and threatening.

Love,
Margherita

You have no idea Spiros how many times I got caught raiding McMann's apple trees.
I got the discipline of Grandpa's belt several times, but kids will be kids.

I loved this and could see the scene clearly.
