Would you look at that
Carnivorous bat
Looks like a wharf rat
Wings spread for combat
Radar-flying at
No time for chitchat
Cares not where he shat
Get a baseball bat
At least wear a hat.

Now normally I like bats.

I can even see something a bit endearing about this little guy. I mean, that photo is near life-sized, and he's givin' it all he's got.

Hmmm. He's a bit larger in the photo methinks.

That would make a great poster.

I forgot to thank you for the smile. *hugs*

Haha! Where I grew up there was an old pond not far and my childhood friend (died two weeks ago) would go out there about dusk with baseball bats and try to hit those darn thing. They swarmed around that pond. Of course we never even came close to hitting any of them, what'd we know of radar in those days.

LOL !! I hate bats! When I was a teenager, our house attic became infested with bats. They would some how find their way into my bedroom at night and my sister accidently trapped one under the covers with her! To say that we freaked out would be putting it mildly! My Dad would send my Mom in with a broom to kill it. Enjoyed your poem.

Your dad would send your mom in to murder the poor helpless little )*(^$$@$^ / I'm not all that crazy about 'em either. Anything that ugly needs to be eradicated. Course my first mother-in-law . . . Oops! Better not go there. Haha Thanks, Kat.

Anyway that bat is freaky,no bat in my mind is any less scary than another. eek
My mother told me one day when her & my father were first married, she went down the basement to do her laundry, and she was pregnant at the time too, and to what do her wandering eyes see? A rat looking straight at thee!! I once saw a centipede while in my basement well I FLEWWWWW outside and screamed for my husband to open the door to let me back in spiders and rats no thank you.

You're just no fun whatsoever on a picnic in the deep woods, huh? Haha! A centipede? They go good in a pot of vegetable soup, dreamgal. Heehee . . .

Oh, isn’t he magnificent, and so photogenic, the sweetie pie!  And what a magnificent set of teeth, he has – no wonder there aren’t dentists for bats!  Thank goodness for their radar in the face of your baseball bats, Jerry!

Giggles at Kat’s bat in the bed, but no giggles at her Mom with a broom to kill the little dear, hopefully she didn’t succeed.

Jerry, I wouldn’t be any fun on a picnic either as I don’t put my friends in soup, nor do I eat them.

Dreamgal, send the bats, rats, centipedes and spiders this way, where they will be safe.  When my precious horse, Flicka, was alive, I kept his food safe from other creatures in proper bins, but some people who didn’t, would call me to get the brown house snakes out of their feedrooms, and I would bring them (the snakes, not the people) home and release them in my forest garden, but sadly never saw them again – and if I had, sadly, I wouldn’t have known whether or not they were my friends that I saved from probable death.

Thanks for the fun poem, Jerry and the gorgeous guy in the photo.

Owl

I guess those vampire bats like this one will give ya quite a little bite.

Love the poem Jerry and the thread of humor through it.
