Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

Dog Team Dreams

Hear sharpened runners glide across the snow
Rubbing loudly on the icy trail
The dog team pulls sleds, burning will to go
Sprinting faster, making dog sleds sail
Then they pass with a quick step of spring
When they pull, all they give makes snow sing

With envy, I wish I could sail along
Running at their side on crystal snow
And feel the freedom of their pulling song
Wishing for that passion that they show
For they run with desire, heart to please
And they pull with a drive, grace and ease

~

OHHHHH . . . . . !  I know I don't need to tell you, Alison, how much I love the dogs, the photo, and the poem - and not only would I love to be running alongside the dogs, but I really feel as though I AM!  I have seen sled races on TV, but never have I felt so close to being with the sled dogs physically and also part of their souls as I do when I read (and re-read!) your poem.  Thank you, girl.  Your corner of the world may be cold and tough to live in, but it is the magic of dreams.  Through you, I get Alaska without the cold and the hardships.  I hope your plumbing problems are sorted out properly by now with no more recurrences.

My Darling Lasky Girl ~ This fine piece of reality writing engaged all of my senses! I could feel the power and loyalty, the cold. I could hear the sounds and feel the exhilaration! You did an outstanding job of bringing your reader along with the dog teams.

This was very special! I love your Alaska, Lasky Girl! You portray exceeding well through your photography and the printed word!

Love you!

Oh, dear! I just wrote a reply and it disappeared after I pressed "Submit". It registered on the topic page as the 4th reply, but on the top of the page it only has the number of the first 3 replies! Sheesh!
Well, my darling Lasky Girl, I'll give it another go! I think you did an outstanding job of bringing your readers into the realm of the dog team. You engaged all the senses and it was an exhilarating experience. You captured the heart and soul of those incredible canines! Bravo! I love how you portray your Alaska, Lasky Girl through your phenomenal photographs and outstanding poetry!

Love you!

Well, I discovered the problem! I had updated my Foxfire and since my posts weren't showing up, I disconnected from the internet and when I reconnected it and went back into the posts that weren't showing up, they spontaneously appeared! lol

Richard, thank you.  I am lucky - they were just out in front of my house.  So, I went out in my shorts and tshirt and took their picture.  I think they knew and ran a bit more proudly.

Simply beautiful...to me the perfect life would be to have a cabin in the woods filled with dogs and to be in the Ididerod (not sure i spelled that right)...so, i imagined myself to be the person in your wonderful picture living the dream!

Great poem and picture!  I love them.

There must be a poem in here somewhere.

Right in front of your house???  Ohhhhh my goodness!  How exciting!  (How bland my words are in comparison to what I am thinking and feeling!)

Shorts and a T-shirt in ALASKA and it’s not even your icy summer yet?  But thanks, anyway.  You must have been freezing.  Thanks for thinking of me when you were taking the picture!  And thanks for the lovely poem.  Right in front of your house – sorry for the repetition, but I can’t get that out of my mind – no wonder you put up with the weather and the frozen pipes and the burning bush (er tree) and other such wild and woolly things!

hello Alison, the great Jack London would have enjoyed this beautiful hommage and poem, your inspiration always surprises me beautifully and cleverly, this is an excellent poem with vast plan to feel liberty in spaces and mind, I enjoyed very much.

I always wanted to run the Iditarod, just not sure I could make it over Rainy Pass.  I am a better cheerleader, I think.  Thank you for reading and enjoying.

Diana,

A team ran by today and I didn't have my camera close by.  They were really going fast and did not even look towards me or the house.  Dogs on a misson out enjoying a beautiful spring day.

It snowed this evening - think it still is.

Love you

Alison, I am always in awe of those dogs, their energy and stamina is incredible.  I can hear the sear of the blades on the snow in your poem and feal the wish of vibrance to match them.  You may not physically have their fortitude, but your spirit certainly does!

The movement and harmony come together in stellar fashion! ~Karen

A team of your own, Alison?  Really!  Ohhh wow!

The dogs that ran past the day you wrote that (I have had no Internet connection for days and I didn't check what day you wrote your reply) so fast, didn't glance your way because their speed required them to watch extra carefully where they were going and they knew you would understand and not have your feelings hurt - you knew that, but I just had to tell you, just to make sure, you really did know!  Even though you didn't have your camera with you, I am enjoying that vicariously, as I know you won't mind.  I love what Karen said - and you, in the poem - about hearing the runners of the sled in the snow - and I can hear that too, as I run in spirit with the dogs.

Bluesy has it so right.  I love every poem of yours I hve ever read, but I esPECially LLLLLLLOVE it when you Alaskanate, especially about the animals there.  There is a part of my mind and heart that is reserved for Alison and Alaska.  You are the only person I know in Alaska, so, as I have told you before, I think - in my mind, Alaska belongs to Alison, although being the kind person you are, you share it with anyone who wants to share it with you (which, of course, includes ME!).

Diana,

I was listening to the radio on the way home and heard of something that made me think of you.  Hang on and let me go get the link.

Well, I can't find it, but I will and I'll get it for you.  It was about dog mushing.  I'll find it.

You make me smile so often - when I think of SA, I think of you.
