I know to let a dream play out
then swiftly close the door
and let it knock at will
on my now reality.

I grant some measure of respect
and smile at its deviousness
but remain as one detached
and completely unmoved.

And of that dream that long ago
scanned the pages of my soul
it forgot to do the updates
and stay current with the times.

Knock-knock, knock-knock.
the door stays closed;
I have no earthly need
for yesterday's dreams.

So it tries to tell me,
"No, no, no, it's new and untainted"
but I smile again detached, unmoved;
its lies are not my karma.

Let it lie where all dreams lie
on the doorstep cold alone
for it won't ever ere again
impact on my reality!

New approach on the dream scheme of things, Helen. Methinks it is a good thing to allow old dreams to wither and die at our doorsteps.

Letting old, unrealized dreams die, can be a painful process. However, that leaves room for new dreams to take residence and to some day become part of our reality.

Dream on, sweet dreamer!

I tried not opening the door to an old dream once, and it broke through the window...

Dreams are the warnings and wonders that we don't even know we have, deep inside.

Lovely Helen.

Do I perceive the use of double meanings, of how these wise words of yours pertain to both hopeful waking dreams (that pan out to be unrealistic at times), and to night-time sleep dreams, some of which must really be "Slugged" out cold in trade for waking reality's familiar welcome, before they become a tad, bit or smidgen too painful?

Very good metaphor, if that's the correct description. Also, by karma I presume you refer to fate.

Love that!!  Dreams don't always keep up but the fact that they ever were is a keepsake in itself.

Seems with age we learn to compartmentalize them and let go of/or at least temper what isn't worth dreaming.

Hugs honey~
