it wasn't your new car smell
or how you were built for going faster
and that your curves were not fragile

it was more the comfortable perhaps
how you parked your lovely there
at the curb side of my glacing mind

and then just let yourself idle
I imagine purring would be accurate
but you didn't leave any sounds

just that take a test drive hello
to see if I could keep you on the pavement
and not get you too dirty, too soon

I didn't bother looking at your fingers
to see if you were already preowned
or leased perhaps, since I had decided

when you were not looking, I would steal you

I don't think I could even be sold for parts.

Bring a tow truck?

(I might have hit you with that one before, so it's apparently not really the last chance Texaco. I'll try to make the last Last Chance Texaco, tho.)

I definitely needed this tune-up, lovie.

Haha, oh man Dark your stuff is so good it sometimes it makes me chuckle in delight... everytime I read you I hear Sam Elliot reading it in that low deliberate voice of his... I liked the beginning but the end here was pretty great:

"just that take a test drive hello
to see if I could keep you on the pavement
and not get you too dirty, too soon

I didn't bother looking at your fingers
to see if you were already preowned
or leased perhaps, since I had decided

when you were not looking, I would steal you"

sigh wheel drive huh?

hecks yeah...

I really like your play on words within the poetry you give us to read. I am never dissatisfied.

Wow, Harleys and limos - unlikely combination - but then who wants to be predictable?  When I was married (a thousand years ago) I had a 1981 MGA sports car - which was sports car red - VERY seldom put the top up, only when it rained in winter (and even then, not always).

Wonderful metaphor! Very cleverly expressed. Would a woman have thought of this? Anyway, I really enjoyed the read.
