How do you define,
a rock?

Is it something big
like the one in Gibraltar,
or is it a bothersome
grain of sand
that an oyster turned
into a pearl
that now dangles,
around the soft
nape
of your neck.

Is it a wart
on the face of a cliff
that decides
to run down
a hill one day
creating a race
with every other
kid rock
on the mountain,
or is it a cube
of ice
that is turning into
steam
as it is slowly
run up,
and down,
your shuddering
bare
body?

Is it a type of music
that epitomized,
my generation
or is it a piece
of crack
that epitomizes
the sadness
of your’s
that mine
helped start.

Is it a piece
of hard
sweet
candy
that you suck on
in your mouth
till your toes
start to curl
and pucker,
or is it a piece
of coal
jammed and squeezed
between the
thighs
of the earth
into the diamond
of a ring
held forward
in a small box
by a man
on one knee
frozen,
in the fate
of his own
destiny.

What is a tear
when it doesn’t fall
on our
cheek
because something
is in
our eye?

What is laughter
when we find ourselves
laughing
at our saddest moment?

What is gasping,
when the world chokes us
because our soul
ran out of air?

What is smiling
when the day
of our life
is done
and we close our eyes
in
contentment
for the
last time?

When is the bill due
for the streetlights
in the sky
and how long
do those light bulbs
last
anyway.
And did we replace them
with compact
fluorescent lamps!

When did the rule
come down
that we are born
with innocence
but that we can’t
keep it
forever?

When does charity
start at home
when the,
earth
is our home ?

When do the
rainbows
stop moving
everytime
I run after them?

Where does the wind go
when the clouds run
out of breath?

Where is the street
paved of gold
that we follow
to the land
Of
Ozborne ?

Where is
that Waldo cat
anyway
and
where in the
heck
is,
my MTV?

Where did
the horses go
and all the
Native Americans too
for that matter?

Where is the blue
baloon
I let go
when I was
four years old.
did the sky
adopt it
and give it
a good home ?

Who, is
mending the
rips
in this space time
fabric
we keep hearing
about?
I don’t feel like
falling through.
You heard what
happened to the
Fifth Dimension!

Who,
stole my quarter
when I was in
second grade.
I was going to
buy Stacey
an ice cream
after school.
That might have
changed
my whole
life?

I really liked her.

Who hung
the poor little
cat
in the pear orchard
behind our house
and just left him
there
in the tree,
to die.
I hadn’t thought
about that
in all these years
till now
and it still
haunts me.

Why,
why…

why,
would anyone
ever,
want to do
something
as mean and cruel
as that.

Why do we have
to have
so much
damn Evil
in this
world?

Why
can’t we have
more happiness,
and
compassion?

What in the name
of all that is
sacred and just
is so
difficult
about that ?

Who, what, why,
when, where
and,
how
do we find
such answers
and,
understandings?

Sometimes I think
their all around
us.

Their with us
on the beach
when the ocean
waves,
at your child.

Their with us
in the night
when a star
winks at us
from above
making us feel
that
someone
is listening,
and
that
things
are going to be
alright.

Their with us
with the song
the branches make
when the feathers
of the trees
start their morning
serenade.

This, thing
someone
once decided
to call,
poetry,
its us
and everything
else
all around,
right?

It’s in
the stalks of corn
that lend
an ear
to our hunger.

Its in the
black eyed
peas
that fight
for our sustenance
and keep
an eye
on our health
when we
don’t.

It’s the angel
hair
pasta
that gives us
grace
at the
table,
and,
the elbow
macaroni
that gives us
a nudge
when we’ve
consumed
too much.

It’s in the
lady finger
cookies
that point
the way
to things sweet
and simple.

It’s in the
navel oranges
that trickle off
our ching
and tickle
our
fancy.

It’s in the
artichokes
that remind us
about the heart
of sharing.

It’s the fillet
of soul
that
whispers,
who we
are.

It’s all these
little things
and so much
more.

It’s the garden
of being
we sow,
into each other.

Amazing stuff, dear Richy!

A keeper no doubt. Going to read it once more. It's long ... but you called it "Garden" and I breathe some truly fresh air of some truly awesome mind here.

Love,
Margherita
