Other than a spoon of sugar
I drink my coffee black.
Strange how tastes will change
and old ones don't come back.

I guess it happened with men too.
I have a simple man, no frills,
but he's got enough sweet and hot
mixed just right to give me chills.

That's what I'm accustomed to now,
I've tasted all the best in past,
but there was never the certain thing
and the missing grew bitter fast.

Used to love the rain, the pain,
but now I dance laughter and crack
sunshine open like an uncooked egg,
perfectly content with coffee, black.

I once had a cup of coffee with some cream that had turned a bit... does that mean I like my women hot and curdled?

Don't ask, I don't even know what that means, I'm still on that Dr. JackPepper sauce for me ailments.

Thanks for the hot cup of Dixie, now I'm ready to take on the day!

Good for you and the simple man and coffee black.

Where there is laughter, there is happiness ... and coffee is a great "stirrer"

Very captivating poem, dear Dixie.

I remember when I started drinking mine black (no cream, no sugar.)  I was visiting my mother and adding cream & sugar to my coffee when she came up to me and simply said, "One of these days you might be able to drink your coffee like me...like a man...black."  Thanks, Mom.

...thanks for the java write...enjoyed

excellent 'write' ! ...

and, what a particularly grand-fine line:

"now I dance laughter and crack
sunshine open like an uncooked egg(!)"

Unique and totally enjoyable. I'm happy that you've found the "right brew." *s*
