Sometimes I still get sad,
like when I drink.
Guess I should know better
but I don't stop to think.

But generally I don't like the rain
when I'm sober and not in pain.
I guess we can change reasons
when the mood hits,
unpredictable like the seasons
and how the view sits.

I used to get drunk to numb the pain
but now it's because I need to cry,
every now and then I like me that way-
I wouldn't know the words to say
if you bothered to ask me why.

Me, I've been ridin' the rails,
waitin' to get off at the sea,
I'll learn to play
that Les Paul one day.
So if we crossroads, wave at me.

A lot of reasons to get drunk, my friend, and you gave bared yourself to one of yours. When you finally master that Les Paul is when you will have mastered life.

Dixie, I don't know if you've ever been in better form, writing wise, I would put this poem in my top 5 or at least ten favorite Dixie Doodles, and I don't mean doodles in any way to diminish your wonderful talent, only that it just kind of sounds fun, you know. You have this soft, wise, edgy, and vulnerable style that just translates so well with the everyperson, I just adore it. I wish you would very seriously consider publishing a book of your work, I would buy it and read it on those special occasions when I just wanted to feel comfortable knowing that I am not alone with some of my own similiar thoughts and ways of looking at life as your's.

I wish the whole world could read you, I think you'd be surprised how much they would love... and need, your inspiration.

Richard

Lori, thank you and I really mean it. It seems we have a connection, a relation to one another. I do love your work as well.

Jerry, yep, one day I'm gonna get her done. But right now, I only know about 3 chords.

Richy my dear friend, I have books out there floating around Amazon.com. Just look in Books for Dixie Bullington. I'd be honored for you to have a book of mine to sit with on those quiet nights.

Titles are:
Since Feeling Is First
Where Marshmallows Grow
Where Home Is Found
I Am A Seasoned Traveler
I Am Just A Memory Now
Letters To My Husband

PS-

I'd recommend I Am Just A Memory Now since it has over 400 pages and spans over 10 years of my writing phases.
