I was refinishing the deck you loved to bask on,
It was cedar and smelled clean, durable odor of nature's pleasures.
Caught a glimpse of you walking past the patio doors.
There they were, those same shapely legs
with a stride particular to dedication's familiarity.
A determined walk but with pearls of distinction
you still carry yourself through a prism of class.
Angles of beautiful light only I can see.
I immediately wrote a love song in my mind
Hoping that when I try to express it
you will hear what I really have to say.
Sometimes after all these years
I struggle to speak, yet do actually feel, what I want to say
But when we're face to face I'm lost in a sea of common words
Words that will never do you justice
or cause you to remember them.
I get your smile and I know it's a plentitude
of the love you've always had for me.
Yet later, when we get together,
and those same legs surround me with needs
I'd like to generate my heart to cry right through your soul.
To tell you the intimacy of these times mean more than a climax of physicality
Because there could never be another you
to accept me for the stumbling words that hide my
wisdom of loving you after all these years.

true love never looks after it's own interests

Not even in the throes of passion can I imagine you stumbling over words my friend...breathless maybe, with a momentary inability to speak, but never stumbling.

One of the reasons I resonate within your
poetry is because of the specific lines that
always belong to you,

quote:
you still carry yourself through a prism of class.

This is one of those times, my friend,
that I wish I had written this, just so
I could lend it out to others.

I love this line!

Eric, it is delightfully heart-warming and reassuring to see the proof in your constant affirmation of the fact that there really are some men who really do love and honour their wives “after all these years” and profess it to other people.  It is like a breath of cool forest air permeated with the sweet scent of flowers and accompanied by the trills of birdsong and powder blue skies with happy fluffy little clouds peeping through the forest canopy on a typical South African summer day.  You renew my faith in human nature.

Oh, and I love the poem too!!!

Wow. It sure sounds like you both have been blessed with the kind of love I hope blesses my life one day... absolutely loved this beautiful expression of your feelings... sometimes words only seem to skim the surface, but your poem is not one of those times.

"I'd like to generate my heart to cry right through your soul."

Loved this line! Thank you for sharing.

The soul would have no rainbows, had the eyes no tears.

Words that will never do you justice

With such aplomb, you express that which
is  universal. That feeling of awe when in the company of true love, which bears great poetry when alone and in a reflective mood.

It was somewhere amidst this line:

"But when we're face to face I'm lost in a sea of common words"

where a tear leaped onto my cheek...

Eric my dear friend, I don't think thats ever happened to me from the words of a man's pen, 'cept maybe Neruda on a merciless night in the mist.

It was an honor to read, feel, and learn from you this evening.

You are an inspiration, and a hero, for all men seeking serenity.

That's a nice comment. Having just the right words is something we all seek I guess. I appreciate your visit very much.

Dear Karilea
I'm certainly happy anytime I can make any sort of impression on such a fine poet as yourself.
Thanks for the mention of that line and for being there as a wonderful poet friend.
