Maxwell Street
Is silent

The cold
October air
Doesn’t move
And the autumn
Leaves are still

At the corner
An old streetlamp
Planted decades ago
Casts a dim gray light
Making somber shadows
On one car garages
The chain link fences
Around withered lawns

No out of town car
Is ever now parked
In front of the house
There is no sound
Of haste on wooden stairs
A back door flung open
No flow of hair
Like an oriflamme
Of love spreading
For a loyal paramour
Under a silver moon

The piebald cat
Curled in a ball of fur
Sleeps indifferent
By the curtained view

The weary dog
Fed on scraps content
To live out its life
In less than Eden
Never raises its head

Sounds like you've been on the street where I live...

I'm enjoying the details of your longer works of late. You managed to give life to a dying street. I am quite impressed with the selective visuals which still employ your style of simplicity without excess or overload.

This is just great, Huan Yi. I love these kind of searching, lonesome and sad pieces out of Americana. It could be up there in Canada, or down there in Mexico, but I relate it to the forty-eight continuous states. Well done. I can just visualize a Norman Rockwell painting of your scene.
