A WAY WITH WORDS
18 February 2011

I admire so much
those who have
a way with words.

For my part, I enjoy
becoming
their playmate.

I, too, can certainly relate to this...sometimes I believe that words don't just convey knowledge...they are building blocks of it...and it's always fun to play with blocks

and I would love to build sandcastles with you.

(Hopscotch is a bit too much for me these days--I'm sure my efforts would be quite the sight, tho.)

Thank you, Steaven.  Yes, it’s fun – and words are a lot more important than words – and play is a lot more important than play – for example, lion cubs learn what they need to, through play.

Thank you, Yann.  I am glad that the poem reached you as it was intended to.  Smiles.

Karen, I would be delighted to build sandcastles with you – and hopscotch would be great fun too – and I am sure you would look great playing hopscotch – and what does it matter what people think anyway!

Now this is what I call a wonderful poem on a poets site. Those of us who attempt to communicate by poetry know full well, you are not merely a playmate for us, but a viable and profound poet in your own right.

Spiros, I know you know how passionately I love and honour Ancient Greece in every possible sphere, especially during the Golden Age - it’s literature, art, architecture (and oh, just one example is how the Temple of Sunien has me weak at the knees!), alphabet, language, philosophy, logic . . . I am breathlessly honoured by what you said.  I have taken note of the book you mentioned and will see if I can find it.

As I said I would, I have printed out all of Sketchbook and imbibed each poem slowly and deliciously and have it in my bedside table drawer for quick and easy access to re-read any as and when I wish.
