on this
our first anniversary
I found these things:

1: the quiet that always lay
inside my mouth
yet never had room
to stay

2: the voice of my heart
that had never really spoken

3: the peace of quiet arms
I had never felt

4: the sleep
that bore me your
undreamed dreams

5: the tickle
of a laugh bubble
unable to escape

6: the warm shoulder
called
comfort

and all the words
you longed to whisper

and couldn’t

well, I don't really know how to take this because for some reason it made me sad

but maybe it's just my mood tonight

I don't think it's your mood Dixie.
for some reason there
IS a bit of sadness
in it, sadness I did not
expect when I began writing.
sadness will not be denied
I guess.

thank you for reading it
and feeling it
so well.

Kate, when I read this first I was bubbling over with excitement for many reasons.  Then I read what Dixie said and what you said in reply and I read it again.  Again, I struggled to find the sadness.  The only sadness I did manage to find is that it is only now that you have found such quiet happiness.

I can’t believe that it is a year already – it seems like only the other day that we saw your new photo and learned of your marriage.  I must admit, I was concerned at the time – I felt an uneasy sense of worry, but it seems that I was wrong to have felt it – of course, no marriage can ever be perfect, but it seems that yours has brought a lot of what you need, though perhaps little of what you sought, and that you have realised that what you needed is now just what you want.  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

oh Diana, my sweet friend, I have never been happier in my life.
our marriage is not perfect
but it is very close to whatever
is perfect.

in truth this is a
happy, satisfied poem.
the sadness lies outside our
marriage and cannot
be fixed.
we face it together.

thank you for your tender concern and for the Happy Anniversary!

love, Kate

Heya Kate,

I felt the sadness too, but I felt it for a time gone by - and perhaps what once was.  Does that make sense?  I love that you have found happiness and are moving through the challenges that happiness brings.

Whoops my connection is being a jerk and I posted the above message twice.  Oh well, your poem deserves twice the attention.

Love it.

Alison, you always make sense to me.
I love the way you say that...
"moving through the challenges that happiness brings."

you are wise beyond your years
happiness is not static, is it?
it is alive and constantly
renewing itself.

thank you

Kate, I am so glad that your marriage is so happy, but so sad that there is sadness that you are facing together.  Prayers for strength for both of you.

Hugs
Diana
