is this a gentle breeze
or the remnants of a far off
bullhorn's wisp,
once the startling
succumbs to familiarity

Ahhh....the jarring sound of the
alarm clock....

I know this poem is more than that,
Sir....

but given the circumstances and all,

In wanting to reach the heart of this whisper of gentle magic, I googled “bullhorn’s wisp” – and LOOK what I found – a treasure trove:

http://poetrywriting.org/Sketchbook5-5SepOct2010/Sketchbook_5-5_SepO ct_2010_Genre_Tanka_Spiros_Zafiris.htm

each poem, a taste to savour on the tongue, pausing to enjoy for a long while, before drinking in the next.

If you are angry with me for putting in this link here, Spiros, I will delete it and apologise.

I love this tanka, in particular, and read “familiarity” in its most positive sense.

..thanks Karilea..>i haven't used an
alarm clock in some time; just tell myself
whatever time i wish to awake, and it happens

..thanks Diana..>>real nice to know you found some more of my poems..i don't know what to say concerning the link and whatever
house policy there is in Piptalk..some forums
don't mind links, some don't particularly
welcome them..

..all i can do, presently, is to thank you both..always pleases me when you two ladies comment..>>spiros..>> Diana, i hope we don't get reprimanded

Spiros, I also hope we don’t get reprimanded, but I don’t think we will – I am sure I have seen people putting a link to their websites.  Over the weekend, I intend to print them out, and then spend as long as I like on each one over as long as it takes.

I also used to be able to wake up on demand – even take a nap of 10 minutes when I was simply too tired to work any later (at home) and wake up feeling as though I had slept for 3 days.  I can still do that, except that I am not so good at waking up on demand.  To get me awake for work I have 5 alarm calls on my cell phone and one on my alarm clock, and I usually sleep through all of them – I sleep through thunderstorms and often even my burglar alarm.  I may have a problem with waking up on demand now, but I have never had a problem with getting to sleep on demand.  I usually fall asleep within minutes, and sometimes seconds, of allowing myself that luxury.

Hello friends...

Links are fine, as long as they don't lead to anything that would be against house rules.

Spiros...NORMALLY...I can do just as you do, tell myself to wake [at any given time] but as I have recently returned to work and my puppies are wonderful warm bodies which tends to lend oneself to "one more moment"...I set the alarm [for now] simply to make myself get up and over to it [six steps!] to shut the darn thing off!

Don't worry...even though it's been two years of not going to work, I'll get this all situated! LOL...

Every tanka tells a story, and paints a pretty picture.

Very nice, Spiros Z~
