Pg.47
abandoned along the road of brambles and petticoats,
the buckets, milk-heavy,
the day’s teeth already in me.

Pg.66
threadbare and calm,
and the splinter slips still deeper into my tonsils.

Pg.89
before there is a kiss, and a red wool cape. A warning.

Pg. 97
daffodils and strawberries the size of my fist,
glisten in their nervous distance,
and the leaves that spring from my mouth resemble sparrows.

The radius of my palm equals the width of a star.

Pg.102
you were thinking torn, and the hyacinth had teeth.

Pg.111
now, I am all reckless stairwells
and falling sounds…my throat,
a lovely murder.

Pg.138
mid-winter, and I am a twisted ankle,
the body torn from its corset
in a litany of dark, lacy poems.

Pg.140
caught in a lie,
the space between my cheek
and tongue purpling, erratic.

Pg. 163
strange how this wound in my mouth opens a bit, when I say love.

Pg.178
and the silence of fingers through my hair, now,
the soft hum of kisses at my nape loosen
the bones into a burgeoning landscape.

Hell yeah, redheads are the shiz.

Pg.185
the spine opening to folksongs,
and already in the teeth,
the fever spreads to the ears.

Pg.194
surely up to my knuckles in the apricot jam,
startled, a tiny breathless, “oh”.

Pg.223
he exhibited a certain sweet tooth,
an affinity for lemon meringue pie.

Pg.251
a strangle that pools in the sheets. Given time,
I am sure I can linen my body to white,
map the distances between drifts by the shift of vertebrae,
see what spreads and closes like the buttons on a red denim dress.

Pg.288
as you braid my hair, the trail of the comb’s teeth
along the scalp incites a certain fission.

Pg.302
I am obsessed with the bones in my mouth…
and such big eyes you have, and such big teeth…

Pg.337
the trail gone mossy and inhospitable, lewd and overgrown,
the night sistered like cells to a dark, milky opening.

Pg.400
here is a secret: everything is lost to me already.

Pg.418
why, some nights even the cupie dolls have teeth.

What a delightful idea and how superbly you did it, snippets of such absorbing variety!  I was sorry when it ended.  Thank you, Belle.

These are exquisite and most excellent short vignettes, and tell a story, although I do notice that midwinter comes just 41 pages after the strawberries...

easy1~~  thanks for taking the time to read this...as for the early frost...Red wrote inconsistently in her diaries...sometimes months or even years would pass from entry to entry...she was a peculiar girl...

LOL

thanks again, easy~
