Astonishing

Nearly two years
sending out resumes, filling
endless applications weekly, daily,
filing for the dole only to be
unapproved, unwanted, over
qualified, over age? over paid -
even promising interviews exhibited to
prospective employers – what?
Too well dressed? Graying hair
[that has been approved by friends]
Or did I come across as too professional?

Nearly 18 months ago a financial
advisor said, “Really? Are you looking?”
Then went about started working a plan,
needing to take time because, really,
this recession wasn’t going anywhere
for awhile. At the next financial
meeting, he asked, “are you still wanting
to work?” An anxious nod, he said,
“will you keep me apprised of your offers?”
and of course, I laughed…what offers?

Then one day he said, after a meeting,
“can you stay, and talk with me awhile?” so
I did, hearing him say he would like to
create a position for me…and would I like
part, or full time?

He’s being nice, I thought, and went along
with it all. Then he called me back and I
met with him and his wife; and then a third
meeting with him, his wife, and staff.

A week ago today I re-entered the work force.
What will probably keep me here until I can
truly retire is what they put in the
“Welcome to our Office” basket [have you
ever received a WTOO basket? I hadn’t…] and
aside from the Post-it notes, a highlighter with post-it
tabbies, a keychain with anti-bacterial
hand gel…were the pens. Not one, or two, but
three marvelous, well constructed, handsome,
beautiful pens.
My downfall. Achilles heel. Penchant,
loves, charms, touchstones.

Pens.

For pens hold promise, and the unknown. They
hold astonishing moments and
undiscovered ideas, and until that very pen hits
paper, a cloth, or napkin, paper sack, or
even toilet paper, no one knows what magic might
transpire.

Pens.

Astonishing.

I’ll probably be at this office
in this position created for me as
Client Care Coordinator
until they sweep my ashes aside.

Gotta love it! And I do. A little late getting here. Spent over seven hours at the emergency room. Esophagus problems.

It's a great time, daughter. Some of us unemployed will be able to regain their lives...and I only pray it will hold for even more people.

Martie, you're so cute! Thank you, Sissie

JP...hope you're feeling much better, Sir...thanks for checking in!

Serenity...I couldn't have asked for more!

Spiros, my friend, thank you so much!

Lori...I is as happy as I ought to be....

Diana...thank you, dear!

Steaven...just because you asked? Voila...you'll find it.

Thank you, James.
