Ashen are the lamentations,
the mewing eulogy of crickets
exiled to the midnight pastures,
I keep strewn with the wreckage of pumpkins,
charred wood, and glass whimsy

as dawn sets an exodus to music,
simmering in all its pink omens,

yesterday still in its husk, ablur
with the wings of doves,
screaming for pulp and mash,

Winter is a halo of ash
where black mares run like a memory,
peripheral to the orchards,

and home becomes a slow deluge of loops and tumbles,
all thumbs to hold the Calabash moon
by its drawstring, swallowing

these inching shadows, my soul
gloved in a raiment of skin,

and heaven is in a hollowed promegrante,
bubbling on a spoon, secreted
in a lacquered box with lush filigree,

a kept mistress, locked
in a tumbledown tower,

and just yesterday there were wraiths
bluing the soft lips of our wildnight gardens,
slowfires and ecstasy, given

so much time to hum
against the hands of a pumpkin clock,
as it ticks off the minuets in its bittersweet pulp,
and inches along barefoot,

the glass shards like shrapnel embedded in my heel.

Haha! Gotta watch those slippers made of glasss. You have a wonderful, fantasizing thought process, and I love it. Sorry I haven't been around today, spent most of it in the emergency room. Esophagus problems.
