I was chasing thoughts
inside myself
sitting on the porch
afternoon sun couldn't reach me
still I sweated
thoughts turned to voices
whiskey-laced voices
haven't had a drink in twenty years
'cept for that glass of vino
just before bedtime each night
the voices
senseless and too many
all talking at once
tried to ignore them
looked across the road
two large, rounded oak trees
side by side
made me think of breasts
shook my head
trying to get Alma out of it
prettiest breasts God ever put on a female
green, intense, intense green eyes
with the smolder
of a homicidal linebacker
ah
sun is sinking
nighttime, like a great weariness
will soon envelop me
my mutt, Zoe, is in my lap
nuzzling
Zoe's a great nuzzler
it creates a calmness in me
not many have done before
the voices are still there
fading though
Zoe is the reason for that
its that calmness I told you about
I took a deep breath
she sighed
I like to look into her expressive brown eyes
its like she's aware of my thoughts

Bob Seger on the old fashioned turntable
just inside the door
Against the Wind
ah . . .
life is good
Zoe, Bob Seger, and me
against the wind

Yeah, Baby Girl, that's about what it was. Thank you for your support.

As I have said before, Jerry, I am glad you have Zoe.  She is beautiful and wise and precious.  Enjoyed your poem.

Sometimes it sounds very good to be you.  This is one of them. I read your calm with green eyes.
