My Sweet Nothing,

Enclosed you will find the dust of moth wings,
the pollen of blue roses flush in the serein,
that invisible flim flam too vivid to bear,

don't go back there,

not even the killdeer do,
not the swallows and not the rooks,
not the sparrows nor their silvering hooks,

neither the reddest birds
nor the furtive Cinderellas,
their heels split and hollowed-boned wings

still, our nest is more an abandoned bed of peat
than a nest ever was, a quilt that feels like
bruised knees, swollen lips, everything.

My Dreamy Nothing, you
with your neverness, your unknown,
your Blue within, all thick cells and vortexes and serotinin love,

the cricket's lavish song lulls my virtue, dead,
you whisper this is how the earth becomes a grotto of skeletons,

snow, white weather, chalk and basalt,
puffins and fushia sumac in the hoarfrost,

and bloodied, your hand holds the shorn bush
that yesterday flourished, all lopped canes

and a scant spitfall of remnance, like pollen,
the dust of moth wings mere confetti
in the clefts of vanishing deer.

You blend the harshest cruelty with the gentlest beauty and make a classical ballet out of it, just as Life does, but few see Life like that.  The fact that you do, enriches us.

Well, Belle, if that is your lunacy, would you mind very much staying a lunatic, please?

Surrealistic with the grit of reality is this gem. You, bel1e, are a teller of stories, a Picasso who spreads her words and phrases over the canvass of the mind, not hesitating to venture out and surprise and even befuddle your many fans. I find you refreshingly loony.

I've read this three times...
and the word "awesome" blanches
because it is so much more.

I do enjoy your work, Belle.

Your writing is an event!

Sitting down to read your poetry is thrilling,
every word keeps me on the edge of my seat.
