In the debris of my thoughts
There are sundry things I thought I'd lost
I found them today
Although I hadn't planned to search
Shoulda let well enough alone
And not drug out trinkets
I'd saved of our time together
Brenda Lee performance ticket stubs
Years before
A Bloodrock concert in a cow pasture
Didn't need tickets for that one, just show up
Those were fun times
Nobody can belt 'em out like Brenda
And it still chills me when I listen to
DOA
Ah, but those are not the only memories
I have many
Our first chaste, shaky kiss
Turned into a battle of tongues
As we waited to be seated at a restaurant
Where later
At the watering hole you tried to keep up with me
Put your fingers to my mouth
Said, Guess where they've been
Scandalous you might say
But not so much
It was the swinging sixties'
Just wait until I get you back to the house
You said, with a promising leer
But you passed out on my shoulder
On the drive home
Oh, those days
Those wonderful crazy days
History now
Something for me to think about
Sometimes like now
We bought a house
Out in Oak Cliff
On Westmoreland
G.I. loan
Nice three-bedroom brick
Too bad it wasn't to be
Nothing worked out for us, did it
Things turned bad
Then got worse
Last I heard you were in Waco
I hope you found what you needed
You said once
No woman could tame me
What could I say to something like that
You laughed that infectious laugh
I'm chuckling now
Wishing you knew
I finally did settle down
Sorta
I can hear you saying
Old man time settled you down
Not a woman
Except for my memories, Virginia
I have one picture left of you
You were standing behind me
As I knelt in the back of the
Grand Prix
I was grinning; you had that quirky smile on
Precious
We used to say I love you
A lot
Couldn't keep our hands off each other
I did love you
I know you loved me too
One other thing
I love these old memories

Haha! Thanks Owl. Trinkets. What would we do without them.

Just too cool Jerry! You paint the highlights with the same palet you paint your shadows...beautiful.

excellent write, Jerry...I don't think there is anything more joy-filled and melancholic at the same time as memories...and you have shared yours vividly...thanks for letting us look over your shoulder as you paged through the scrapbook of your life

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Jerry. I particularly liked the way you openned this piece up. I've got a few of those old ticket stubs floatin' around myself. By the way, enjoyed the use of the picture. It adds a nice element. Peace.
