i defend my right
to call myself a poet
not because my work  has been
compared to that of sara teasdale
which it has been
nor because i have read
in a coffee house and college
which i have done

i defend my right
to call myself a poet
not because i've gotten paid
for poetry i've written
which did happen
nor because i have
this need to be heard
through the written word
which i admit i do

i defend my right
to call myself a poet
regardless of what any
critic of my work might say
because i believe it's true
and baby i've paid my dues

There must be a poem in here somewhere.

Faith,

some of my work has been likened to Rilke...and some other poems have been likened to some famous female poets. Likened, reminded...sound's like, etc., that works for me.

I write, because I can...I share, because that's what I do. Leave a mark? Probably not...but that's okay. I still have the freedom to write, and share. And sometimes, that's better than any fame that might follow.
