I would be doubly eager to talk to you.  He is gorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgeous and cute and loveable and precious.  Please give him lots of kisses and cuddles from his adoring Auntie Di in sunny South Africa.

What is his name?  I know you won't mind his photos going into my folder called Animals - not mine or my family's.

thanks everyone! I appreciate the responses so much.

Auntie Di, his name is Spike. He was named before I got here. I would have named him something different, maybe Tigger or Bear or Buddy.

Sure you can use the pics wherever you want to. I'd be honored. Yeah he's a pretty boy and I think he knows it too. He's shepherd-chow. Both parents were gorgeous too.

Shepherd and Chow?  What kind of a shepherd? I thought chows were smaller.we had a mixed dog that looked exactly like an English sheep dog.Huge and fluffy. The rest of the litter she came from were all small and hhad hort hair. The vet said she was either a throw back or there were two fathers involved. He told my daughter she could call her what ever she wanted so she always said an English Sheep dog. That is what she certainly looked like.

Dear Spike

I think your name is great!  However, I think Tigger is lovely too (my kitty who went to Heaven on 26 October 2010 was called Tigger); and Bear too (my right slipper is called Bear – the left one is called Teddy); and Buddy too (I don't know anyone called Buddy).  You really are absolutely magnificent.  Please tell Mommy that I am very glad that she has you to keep her company when Daddy is away - and when Daddy is there too, for that matter.

Marty Jo, his dad looked something like this...

the only thing he really got from his dad is the thick furry neck. His mom was a German shepherd. She was huge! His dad was big too but not as big as his mom.

Deer, lol yep that's what everyone says! I never was a dog person till Spike.

Auntie Di, Spike wants to give you hugs and kisses. (Get your rag ready to wipe your face) He wanted me to take a pic of him smiling for you!

Ohh, Spike, my sweetie, I don’t need a rag to wipe your kisses off my face.  Thank you for your photo smiling for me.  Your Chow tongue is gorgeous as is everything about you. The doggy that looks like your biological Dad is beautiful too.  Your smile melts my heart into custard.  No wonder you turned Mommy into a dog person.  Thank you for your hugs and kisses.  Please thank Mommy for the perfect photo.  Whew!  You ARE gorgeous!  I can’t take my eyes off you.

Your adoring Auntie Di

Dixie,I just happend to see this. I see the eyes in both dogs are enough to back me into a corner and the tongue as Owl mentioned is certainly from the Chow. What a mixture. I always prefered  a mix to a pure bred.

You have a beautiful dog. loveto you, jo

So lovely, Dixie.  A big teddy bear - yes, I have no doubt and all the more to melt one's heart.  I think a home is just a house without a dog around - they are love personified.  Enjoy your time together.

Haha! Gotta love it. I am a one hundred and ten percent dog lover and it seems you have a real friend there with that gentle monster. I have a feeling that gentleness can change in a moment if he thinks his lovely mistress is in trouble. Fine looking dog. Oh, that furry neck isn't the only thing he got from his dad, I noticed that his tongue was black, a sure fire chow trait.
