ME. In the Shadow of the Mt.

0 posted 2011-01-27 04:23 AM

I awoke to witness winter's spell
In the quiet pre-dawn hours
Before the light of day awakens
and the moment sours

Huddled in a quilt upon my bed
Marveling at the frosty lace on the glass
of the window upon which I rested my head
To peer beyond to see it's wonder

I was charmed by the winter snowy night
As I spied fluffy white flakes silently drifting down
Ice fairies had turned trees into sculptures in ice
and a pure white blanket covered the town

Winter sprites had used their magic tools
With snowflakes cascading down to cover the trees
In new white coats adorned in crystalline jewels
Snow sparkling in the light of an opaque moon

A world of peace and tranquility abound
The land innocent, covered in a fragile purity
Lasting only until unknowing footprints appear
To desecrate and destroy it's beauty

Those dang footprints.

I just fell into this and lazily read on down the page and realized that being from Canada I had been there too.
With that snow silently falling it's a truly peaceful, serene time to be alone with one's thoughts.
It's where poets with beautiful hearts come from, the same aura.

This is so nice I got the deepest pure joy out of fading into the images.

Oh, this is so beautiful.  In my world, there is no snow - only sunny days and blue skies and occasional grey ones with rain and thunderstorms.

"new white coats adorned in crystalline jewels
Snow sparkling in the light of an opaque moon"

...I know that we all tend to use the word 'beautiful' so often that it can almost seem trite, but in the richest and fullest meaning of that amazing word, these are among some of the most beautiful words I have ever seen...lovely...

I don't call walking over new snow anything even akin to desecrating. The snow if the one doing the desecrating if truth be known. No one asked for all that snow which immobilizes cities and makes people prisoners within their own houses, never mind the fatal and injurious wrecks it causes.

Just giving the other side of the picture, Kat.

Eric - Being from Canada, I knew you would understand the feeling in this poem. Thanks for the nice comments.

OwlSA - In Maine we experience all the wonderful seasons.  Thanks for stopping by to read my poem.

steavenr - Thanks for the beautiful comments.

JP - I'll take my snowbanks any day over your floods, swamps and poisonous things found in the south. I know because I once lived in Louisiana. Thanks for commenting.

Very beautifully written. I love the imagery. I have not seen snow seen I went to Virginia in 2004.
