LOOK MA, NO MIND
18 August 2001

There's a red stringy thing
hanging from the top shelf
of the bookcase behind me.

Confidentially,
I think it's my mind.
You, of course, may call it
a bookmark ...
but I know it's my mind.

It must be.
I lost it in this very room
...and it isn't anywhere else ...
Can you see it anywhere?

I don't know how to insert it again
but perhaps it doesn't matter.
Who would know?
There's a kinda numbness
where it was
that is better than the consuming pain.

I sorta prefer not having it.
I think I'll leave it
where it is ...
hanging like a shrivelled string
from the topmost bookshelf...

LOL In a way this was funny. Sometimes I think I lost my mind too. I truly enjoyed the read!!!

Thanks, Julie.  It was meant to be funny.  I am glad you saw that.

I'll take that shriveled string and tie it around my finger.

Then I'll forget what it's there for...

Enjoyed lovie.

I can certainly relate to this, Diana. I think I left mine with my car keys, where ever they are.

Giggles, Karilea.  Not all of us – Ida keeps her with her car keys –she thinks!

More giggles Karen.  At least you have it with you, even if you don’t know what it is or why it’s there!

Thanks, Steaven.  I am glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks, Ida.  I hope you find your car keys and I hope your mind is safe and sound with them!

For sure, Owl, leave the darned thing hanging there. that way you will always know where it is and it won't be confusing you on who, what, where, and when. Gotta love it!

Giggles, Jerry.  Good idea.  I think I will do just that.

I see you are your identical twin now.  It certainly seems more like you than Legacy!

Fun and interesting. What a joy it would be to be able to "misplace" one's mind (hopefully temporarily) and have a clear head for a while. Enjoyed.

I love the escape in the humour.

"There's a kinda numbness

Ha! we all should be able to feel that when needed.

You're good kid! Being in your 60's means absolutely nothing when it comes to the heart of it all.

Oops, Eric.  I missed your response.  I have just seen it now.  Thank you very much.  Wow!  It is a long time since anyone called me “kid”!  However (smiles), I am not just “in my 60’s” – I am ABSOLUTELY ALL of 65 and proud of it.  However, I am extremely blessed because I have more health than anyone I know – wish I could give it away in chunks to people who need it, and I have boundless energy most of the time (except some parts of some days in the middle of our summer!) – I can’t resist going up stairs two at a time if nobody’s looking, and don’t know why I should walk if I can run (both literally and metaphorically).

Giggles and thanks, Belle – but I am sorry you aren’t having a good day.
