a black and white Bogie, two-reeler I’m sure
in a noire-rapt era just after the war
when liquor was celebrated, illegal no more
and the popular smoke was nicotine and tar

shades of gray abounded in the colors of your mind
when exposure was imagined and surely not shown
in an age where sirs were gentlemen
and madams, well…they never were alone

words were important in that age so not far passed
when nuances made or broke many a career
as dialogue was Harleyed through the frames quite fast
and cries were for help and rarely ‘bout a tear

so much faux pas and political incorrectness
trying to show how they could entertain us

and rather than seeking plot which so many lacked
I try to recall names of the stars that I’ve tracked

I correct a previous opinion - you are not a wordsmith, you are a wordmaster - every word is "le mot juste" in every possible way.  Delightful - brought a giggle in one place, imagination in others and thought and agreement in others.  Much enjoyed.

steavenr, I liked the old hard-boiled detectives sp much that I wrote a novel entitled "Ram Slade, Shamus." The above is the original watercolor artwork for the cover.

Enjoyed rpoem.
