California sunshine, Arizona dust-
The road goes on forever, so it seems.
A pickup with a bumper sticker, "Rodeo, or Bust"
And a Texas cowboy living out his dreams.

Sleeping in the pickup bed, those early, leaner years-
A lifestyle we called "Goin' down the road."
A lot of nights I hurt so bad, I had to fight back tears
From landing wrong, the times that I got throwed.

I never made the Finals, although one year I got close-
But a bad draw out in Oakdale ended that.
It's the goofin' off behind the chutes, I guess I miss the most,
And home bein' the place I hung my hat.

I'm looking back on fifty, some say that it isn't old-
I've heard that age is just a state of mind...
If that's the case, I'm ancient...my youth the years have stole,
And left a sad old cowboy far behind.

You say I'm melancholy, and crying in my beer-
But nothing could be farther from the fact.
I'm just sitting here reliving, a lot of long lost years.
And wishing somehow I could get them back.

It is always good to have memories. I love this poem.

Absolutely, Gunslinger, wouldn't most of us want to get them back? Bull riding. Always a secret wish of mine, but I was to damn chicken try it.
