Listening to every heart

And then, I…

Sometimes there should be
a smallish rag of softest cotton,
kid gloves and yes, a flashlight,
that we welcome a visit to archived
love…

for no words could nor would come to me
this night,
and oh, Lord, I wanted to place
substantially
pen to parchment,
even though, with self-said best intentions,
when even summer excitement of friends, visiting,
(too swiftly they came, and left…)

this strong need to burrow into someone’s past,
where words were [still are] mushrooming
in the dark, still growing silently,
showing me that manure
[isn’t that what I wrote?]
continues to give…
even in sunlight.

Skipping past the trench of words,
seeking remarks to study,  for what was so good
that they would come to comment,
sometimes, even twice…
I wondered

then going back to see
maybe
what they saw…

and then, there, names of lost poets
who clung with forever thoughts
raked my spine with fingers shivering

and I found this poet’s self
selfishly reading these
past loves, even their teasing,
giving this self reason,
somehow counting meanwhile, too short their seasons,
and then, I cried.

~*~

In memory
of our members,
who have come and gone...
even though they would have stayed...
and for whom we
will never stop loving,
as poets, as friends.

Sissie....It is amazing to go back and read the thoughts in poetry or response, of those we knew so well because of what they shared.  It's hard to believe sometimes that they are no longer going to pop in for a hug...or perhaps they do.  I like to think so.

I liked this very much, even in my twenty-second day of being very sick. Am I never going to get over this mess?

To begin at the back, and go forward,

Yes Jerry, you will. I was so sick with this "stuff" that I was absent nearly 14 days...but you never knew it...

Garapan, yes, they all were...very much so, and some were special by blood....

Martie...you and I, dear? We know so! Even though I never knew "Sy's" voice, for example? I knew it in my heart! It's all in the ear...and the heart.

Maureen, you will always be right in that regard. Always!

I've done the same thing, K, even as late as yesterday, reading Sy's comments, Madame CHipmunk's and Marge's...words they wrote when alive and well, with no knowledge of their time was so limited. Yes, it does bring tears, doesn't it??

...And I quite often enter these halls of blue
to read...and remember those who have passed through.

You know Karilea..there are some who have been
gone for a long while, and yet, I cannot
even remove their names from my email address book.

Perhaps, I never will.
