Perhaps I have been foolish.
A fault I've often claimed...
To feel so strongly drawn to you,
And hope you felt the same.

To live within a dream world-
With love and laughter free.
And watch it all be shattered...
By cold reality.

To think of moments, fleeting,
As I gaze into your eyes...
And mutual exploration...
Reveals love, to our surprise!

A brother of the North wind-
A dreamer of the wild...
I'd never be a lap dog,
I am the wild wolf's child.

But still there is a longing,
To love and have the same.
And when I wake in darkness,
I'm calling out your name-

I guess I'd better go now-
For I heard the wild geese cry,
And thought I merely take the time,
To say my last goodbye.

This is very beautifully written. I could feel the love and sadness at the same time as I read these words.

That was a great bittersweet read that you write like nobody else!

Those last goodbyes are the hardest, but sometimes its the only thing that sets us free. Lovely piece.

Hah. Yep, that was me for more decades than I care to remember. It was the "lap dog" part of the poem which made my ears perk up.  Suffice it to say I had trouble with people trying to "make me over."

Your rhyme scheme flows so effortlessly, and your message touches the heart of what truly matters.

You're one of a kind, cowboy~
