MY SOLITUDE, I ADORE YOU
AN ODE
21 July 1983

Here in the living depth of this tranquil night,
Warm in the haven of your gentle arms,
I answer the call in your deep, true eyes.

Oh, my Solitude, accept this hymn of adoration,
For you are my strength, my friend, my confidant;
With you my thoughts run wild and free;
You share my bursting joys
And my aching sorrows.
You have taught me how
To smile,
To weep.
You forgive my angers
And my follies.
You let me love you without restraint.
I hurt you with my hate, and yet
You take me back without reproach.

You know me better than any
And I am part of you,
The perfect union.
You are the very essence of my life …
And …
How can I but love you,
Knowing that
At Death’s release,
You will
Share
My peace?

Another beautifully written piece. I do like my solitude too. Especially on my days off of work.

In this somewhat incestuous bit of soul-sharing with solitude, you have hit on what most of us who dwell in solitude understand. Solitude is our one true companion, our one true self.

I agree it's precious and sometimes a very best friend.
I don't know how many would get along without their solitude.
I adore mine too and I travel through the romance of life in my solitude.

This is very tenderly rendered and I enjoyed it very much.

Thank you, Rex.  I’m glad you’re glad.  Smiles.

Thank you, Julie.  I am glad you have days off work because working with autistic children must be very draining, and the more so because you enjoy it so much and put your heart and soul into it.

Jerry, I giggled a bit at “somewhat incestuous”  - I had never thought of it that way – and I know you didn’t mean it to be funny, but you are right – it IS sort of incestuous, in an innocent sort of way.  It must be the writer and poet in you who reads me so well and so deeply – and yes, you are right, solitude isn’t an enemy, though he/she/it sometimes seems to be, but instead is “our one true companion, our one true self.”  And giggles at your latest motto!

Oops!  I missed your reply, Eric, while I was replying.  Thank you.  Yes, it is most certainly precious.  I had a nextdoor neighbour when I was first married who HAD to spend some of her day with me or somebody else.  I, on the other hand, HAD to spend some of my day alone.

Solitude

knows,

and remembers.

I admire the date of release, 1983.

YOU...are remarkable!

Thanks, Karilea.  Yes, Solitude knows and remembers, for sure.  I don't get the admiring 1983 bit, but thanks, I am sure.  Smiles.
