This rhyme
sublime
by design
and for a time
masticated
berated
abbreviated
alleviated
brought down
to a bearable pace
so it won't
bring a frown
to your face
a tooled disgrace
kicking sounds
into space
gonna cut
to the chase
divine
benign
profound
got a thought
to displace
but I'm trying
to decide
if the theory
has a place
yours or mine
override
ride the tide
this querie
feeling eerie
but I have
a task
to ask
if you even
want to hear me
you've been
dealt a hand
understand?
you're given
one life
to lead
to live
when you need
do you give?
don't you know?
the gift
it must flow
like a sieve
because
for love
to freight it
to you
like a train
it's gotta go
through you
in the pain
don't restrain
an open hand
so give
to the poor
remain
the open door
don't matter
who's your kin
who's the man
don't flatter
yourself
with sin
you've got
one skin
the one you're in
and it isn't
going with you
it's discarded
like a tissue
who's left?
the real issue
who are you
once it's started
bereft
by death
and outsmarted
and who
you gonna be
when your
weak thin cage
collapses
a worn shoe
it got old
an outrage
full of mold
been sold
down the river
failed liver
or a cancer
from within
relapses?
shout it out
let's hear a holler
there's no doubt
when a lout
owns a dollar
but when
a rich dude
drops dead
Fred
his last breath
death
gurgling
one last shout
he cackles
like a hen
at the knell
of a bell
when his eyes awake
in hell
what's his gold
for which
his soul was sold
b'cuz he got
the itches
for the riches
honey,
what's his money
gonna buy for him
then?

BOOYAH!

While any decent person
would never want to see
another person burning
for eternity, I still
rather like the idea
of a Hell, because it
ensures that the evil
behavior of brutish,
merciless, uncaring and
reprobate men will never
again be an issue to
the innocent, in this
life, or the next.

Nice work. Sound like you have a real anger against people who have money. I maintain that the "poor" are just as sinful and greedy as the rich merely on a different plane. It's all according to the individual.

Thanks for dropping in. No, I have absolutely no anger for the rich whatsoever. I simply adhere to the belief that the selfish, compassion-less, idolatrous, self-obsessed rich whose God is their money and whose focus is their stomaches while the poor go unfed have got all the reward they will ever have. This is not my perspective formulated by my own imagination, but it is one I agree with.

That's quite a rope to climb down. I enjoyed the replies and I appreciate the effort you put into this work.
Why not just kill them rather than torture them? That would be the best answer. Greek mythology added to the good book the whole idea of a burning hell. The majority of major religions now days no longer support the notion because it's way to cruel and uncivilized but are we? That's the question.....smile

Liked where you are coming from in this piece and the responses it evoked from the Blue Buffet. Good write!

This is an  excellent candidate for slam poetry. I can hear it being read on a big stage with a frenzied beat to it, bringing down the house.

As far as the idea goes, I  have the same wishes when I see people do things that are evil, unkind, or detrimental to  others, knowing that they will not be called on it in this lifetime. I whisper a wish that somewhere, sometime, they will be called for such actions and pay for them. I hope there really is a hell for them and, if they have to spend eternity burning, so much the better.

Funny, XGarapanX.You say you have no anger for the rich and then go off of them immediately. Eric is right. Greed comes in many forms.

Don't quit Jerry. I am speaking of a specific category of rich people, not all rich people. Just as not every poor is innocent, as you point out, not every rich person has healthy motives. This poem is about greed, not nice rich people, of whom there are many, who give and give to every good cause. By implication, greed is the Topic, and those who amass wealth with this attitude are the ones who will find they have gained all they will ever have. A better person than I once said, "What does it profit a man to gain the world but lose his immortal soul?" Just as surely as this is a specific indictment, so is the subject of this poem. I have lots to say about goodly, generous rich people, just not in this piece. Your frustration is unnecessary.

But yes, our good Balladeer points out rightly that a poem is just a poem and in this forum is judged for it's merit, not its originator, so I will refrain from debate any further except to point out what I did above, so you may hopefully understand and not be upset.

Ah, we are indeed all greedy. Some for money, some seek attention/love/happiness. and Some...probably the ones you portray in this, don't know when enough is enough, they are beyond greedy. Enjoyed.
