I have to leave here. It seems I am in violation of the rules. So be it.

I read this twice, very slowly, drinking in the whole vista, feeling the heat and smelling the dust and experiencing the anticipation and the routine.  This is one of your loveliest, of those I have seen, in my humble opinion.  I loved every word of it.  At times I was there too, and at others I was removed from it all, watching the entire movie-scene.

My father had a 1949 eau de nil Studebaker.  Then he sold it and bought one of quite a different shape.  it was bottle green and white, and I would guess the model was around 1951 or 1952.  No, actually 1957 rings a bell.  I think the second one was a 1957 model.

Those old Studebakers, they were a sight that's for sure. It is strange when I write such a poem, I mean those pertaining of a long time ago. I see the whole scene, but it's as if I am hovering around and not really there.

Those old dusty roads of my youth. The good. The bad.

Thanks Owl.

As the song goes, faith, "Those were the day, my friend, we thought they'd never end . . ."

Thank you.

I remember that song very well, a lovely one, it was.  I am not very good with names of singers.  Who sang it?  Was it Joan Baez?

No, it was an Irish lass (I think) by the name of Mary Hopkin. Of course other people gloamed onto it because it was such a good song.

Was it not possibly Mary O'Hara who sang and played the harp?

I restored a couple old cars (on my home page)
so I can appreciate this picture you've painted ... the snow plows up here play havoc on the country mailboxes too

WoW! Great work on the cars, Rex. Nice homepage too. And yep, I can imagine what the snowplows do to the mailboxes.

Appreciate the comments, very much.

Interesting history of the song, Steaven.  You were right, Jerry.  It was Mary Hopkin.
