there was a time from my fair pen the softest words would flow.
when gracious word fountains poured notes from the soul
long before the metal and long before the deals
when sweet chords fell from silence to the real.
when there was no disguising just mystery in the clouds
and to the verdant hillsides I would sing aloud.
I walked on the forest trails and below waterfalls.
my mind filled with nature's thrills resting on call.

when the young winds rose to blow branches to chant
faithful ones stood with tears of truth to plant.
before glassy towers that glitter in the pace
many legends lost many Gods too late.

in with baited breath reserved for all they can keep,
they see a golden calf wheeling through their dreams.
pushing for affluence where visions sail the mains
they land on the hidden shores of legerdemain.

let's bring out the old guitar and sing to the trees
lay down some notes that sound like the breeze.
open the heart and let the blood flow
light the old campfire singing songs we should know.

in the tall greenwoods the secret is hiding
the new day comes with a butterscotch dawn
across the still waters all the world is waking
washing through dewdrops lies a simple sage song.

"we are the singers coming from the moonlight
singing our love songs when the morning comes.
bringing in new life and praising daylight
laying out our charms for work to be done"

so over the hillsides and across the skies
out of the wetlands their voice comes alive.
up the long rivers all the way to the head
singing those love songs to bring out the dead.
singing them out and making light known
til sounds of the new day cover their tone.
another day hailed with a feast for the breath
a praise to the living and the maker be blessed.

oh songs of the future haven't all been sung
some heavy as metal and some lighthearted fun....
stop and take a look around we're thinking through dust
everyday above the ground will always be a plus

"we are the singers coming from the moonlight
singing our love songs when the morning comes.
bringing in new life and praising daylight
laying out our charms for work to be done"

Nice and smooth like velvet and easy on the soul.

"we are the singers coming from the moonlight
singing our love songs when the morning comes.
bringing in new life and praising daylight
laying out our charms for work to be done"

That says it all. Singing love songs til the morning breaks and charming the socks off of those who stops and waits.

Reminds me of singing songs around the campfire.
Surely a magical time, one of peace and innocense,
and a wonderful sense of belonging.

Always my pleasure, ethome~

Yep, singing round the campfire is definitely special isn't it?
A completely different atmosphere altogether.

Many thanks for the read and the comment.

It was a better world then "me" thinks!  Thank you, Eric, for a most delightful and nostalgic "ballad ramble".

You might remember, Eric,
that my brother was also into
his music, and lyrics, and
this brought him home to me
today. He appreciated these
words, and wanted me to tell you so.

Thank you, my friend.

Yes, Karilea I do remember your brother but I can't remember what lyrics it was in the past.
I know he's a lyric writer. I think he posted here once didn't he?
I'm  glad he appreciated the lyrics and I'm even more pleased that these lyrics of mine brought him home to you.
I think that's totally great.
Hello right back to him.

He was here, my friend, under the name, Fagin. You'll find him on the Remembrance pages.

It was good of you to acknowledge him...even if it was through me.

Bless your soul....hugs and love,

"future songs" while relishing the past...exquisitely done...loved this line:

"washing through dewdrops lies a simple sage song"

...for me, it captured the essence of this lovely write

The Big Easy
Arrangement and Lyrics by
Robert Rilling

Broken Down and tired.. I really need some rest..
Right then a little vaca was high upon my list
Called down to the airline, said, give me a ticket, please..
I need some distraction to put my mind at ease.

The Big Easy

I touched down in New Orleans.. must’ve been O, 8 0’clock..
I could see the Mardi Gra was startin’n up the block..
The limo driver was holdin’ a card with my name..
I’m lookin’ for some action, now take me where it’s played!!

The Big Easy

He pulled up to a Casino.. smack dab on Bourbon St..
Even though it was late, He said, “you’ll get a seat.”
Sat down to a table.. he cracked a brand new deck
“You need chips, a drink, and a woman.. Monsieur,
I’ll do the rest.

The Big Easy

I was rakin’ in the numbers, I didn’t lose a hand..
The dealer was gettin’ nervous, Pit boss was lookin’ in..
“I’ll take 100 large ‘gainst what I got..” He said, "Ok, deal him in"
The ladies ‘round the table looked up and saw his grin.....

The Big Easy

Ya just gotta love it!!
