she was a speaker to the yahweh trees
a seeing eye blind woman that wandered there
where the coyotes were heroes and bandits too
there on the dark streets behind gringo town

she brought her baskets of prayers at noon
and handed them to empty hands at random
only the lost souls would reach for her gold
and then die in peace between the empty dunes

she whispered to my mirror some mornings
leaving words on the fog stain reflections
telling me to beware of the dark streets
and the ranger with his sifting sand hands

she sewed prayers in my leather shirt lining
and made the buttons shine like golden eyes
she made me immortal to the arrows of evil
but it weakened her skin to become brittle

when she gave of her soul to the dark st ranger

"she made me immortal to the arrows of evil
but it weakened her skin to become brittle"

She seems rather selfless...which, indeed, can become one's very own demise. Thought provoking write. Enjoyed.

Dark is as dark does. There are dark rainbows if you know where to look. Dark is comfort, sometimes scary, always kickass

The dark stranger and the dark street ranger...very cleverly done, as always.

intriguing, extremely so...loved it all but found a special connection with:

"the ranger with his sifting sand hands

...I've found myself repeating it over and over

Very interesting indeed.
I imagine some of the things you see there are quite heart wrenching.
It's sad how man tries to dominate his fellow man but on the other hand sometimes reasons are created that no one understands.

Great poem by the way and I can picture her there.
