ah, there is such beauty
in lady's soft sweet eyes
i swear God take me if it isn't so
i see in them a bit of heaven
a fleeting glimpse of you

but God if there's no heaven (although
i doubt that this could be) then let me go
where lady goes when her days on earth are through
it's true i've loved her more than
most of the people i have known but
she's been more true than my truest friend
and a comfort through the years

i never dreamed a dog could be
all that she's meant to me
so, i pray dear God take everything from me
but leave me my sweet lady

her fur is still so soft to the touch
though she's getting on in years
she's aged so well no one can tell
she's lived a dozen years

ah, lady's given me such pleasure
i can't imagine us apart so
dear Lord the day that you must take her
will be the day that my heart breaks

There must be a poem in here somewhere.

Dear Lori-Thank you so much for your kind words.  My sweet Lady was six months old when I got her.  I wrote this when she was twelve years old.  She lived until she was almost eighteen years and it broke my heart when she passed.

Faithmairee, I am in floods of tears at this.  I can feel your agony in every word.

My last 3 precious babies are all in Heaven (along with all the previous ones).  Flicka, my one and only horse (I was a one-horse-woman), went to Heaven on 28 April 2002; Daisy, my Maltese poodle on 18 December 2009; and Tigger, my cat, on 26 October 2010.  In 65 years, I have never lost 2 babies in one year and it crushed me and I am still torn to shreds about losing Flicka 8 and three quarter years ago.  The 3 of them sent me new babies on 31 December 2010, a dog called Benji and a cat called Cleo.

Call me crazy if you will (I tried sanity for half an hour and it drove me insane), but Flicka, Daisy and Tigger send me cloud messages every day.  Without my cloud messages I would have to have been locked up to keep the world safe.  With them I am harmless.

Your darling Lady sounds beautiful and precious.  I KNOW she is in Heaven, in the part where only the animally people are allowed and my horse, Flicka (and now Daisy and Tigger too, because the 3 of them are never apart for a moment) meets/meet all the animals and the animally people at the gates of Heaven and they link the animals up with their humans and vice versa - and show them around Heaven and introduce them to everyone else as well - so not only will you go to the same part of Heaven as Lady, but you will meet Lady (and any other animals you had) the moment you get in the gate and you will never be separated again.

Sigh. I had to put down my dog last year. Wrecked me.

OwlSA-Thank you so much for stopping by to read my poem.  I was very touched by your wonderful comments.  I have had many dreams in which I am reunited with Lady and they are such wonderful dreams that I hate to wake up and find she's not there. I, too, believe that one day I will see her and the other wonderful dogs (including her son Winston) again that I have had the pleasure of having had as pets.

steavenr-thank you for your wonderful remarks...i was so sad after she passed that for years i would pick a flower from the garden everyday and place it somwhere on the tree in our yard she liked to sit under in her honor...i would thank God for all the time Lady and i had together on this earth for i knew how really blessed i was...

The Lady-Thank you for reading and commenting on my poem...Lady truly was a beautiful dog...when i looked in her eyes, i coud see God's face...i know it sounds kind of crazy but it was as though we could read each others mind...I miss her so much

JerryPat-yes, i know how it wrecks you...after Lady passed, i told myself i would never get that attached to an animal again...and i didn't until i got my next dog...now i have two dogs both getting older and i dearly love them

Pets are such a wonderful part of our lives and losing them is heartbreaking. I understand I have lost a few over the years. This is a beautiful tribute to a dear companion.

Dark-it has been my experience that while they do fill the void one never replaces another simply because like people, our furry friends are all different in their own way...glad you enjoyed my poem!
