The Secret

Reflections in a mirror
Serene stillness in the glass
Deep into the eyes I stare
Lurking shadows are cast

I reached back through the years
Silently tears flowing down my cheeks
As memories of the past appear
They hold dark secrets, so to speak

My home was a prison
A place GOD forgot
Filled with heartache, listen

Piercing dark eyes, demons inside
The one who protects, is not what it seems

No where to run, no where to hide
Frozen silence of unheard screams

Marks, bruises safely hidden
Scars run deep within
Do not complain it’s forbidden
Haunting vision of mortal sin

Your voice echoes in my mind
Coiling into the depths of sadness
Promises, cruel words closely intertwined
Trapped in this cycle of bitterness

Precious years have slipped by
Beneath the ground you dwell
My heart swells wondering why
Eerily quiet as I finally tell

My journey has now come to an end

Rest in peace

Welcome to Pip!

I think that your first offering is very intense and touching.

Your last words convey forgiveness and that is very liberating and noble.

Well written.

I look back on my childhood with mostly fond memories ... any bad ones were my own fault, but all in all, a loving home life.

there are so many, like yourself, that never will have the wonderful childhood memories that they should have had ...

Welcome - what a thought provoking piece of poetry.  It's hard to let the past go, but,  hopefully, in time it will blur.  I look back on parts of my life with sadness, but that person is not who I am today.

Thank you for sharing your work.

Welcome to PIP.

Well written. I think all we can do about the past is forgive. We can't ever change it- only move forward.

When you decide to walk away- walk away.  Don't look back, In that moment you'll lose trust and faith- in yourself.

Very provocative writing. Makes me very sad. I believe it is conveyed well, and worded well, enabling the reader to empathize.
