When I was young we never locked our doors
We never thought of disrespecting our parents.
We were not haughty, looking down our nose at others.
We never loved ourselves above everybody else
We never loved money more than our neighbour.
We tried to be obedient to our parents...smile...
If someone's house or barn burned we helped rebuild it
We never disrespected our teachers, they were looked up to.
We were never unthankful for gifts received.
We were never disloyal to very close friends.
We were open to discussion and agreement
We were never self assuming for our own gain.
We were not puffed up with pride to the extent a sports figure is today.
We always had respect for all different forms of life.
We were not addicted to computer games and web sites.
We stayed outdoors where nature was massaging us.
We helped others through crucial times.
We had moral values that were respected by all.
We had decency and upheld it's badge of honour.
We got in fist fights but after they were over we were tender toward each other.
We knew of hatred but we didn't want to cultivate it.

We're so much farther ahead these days!
Who do we thank?

Eric

I have the answers to why for the regression of a lot of these noble traits, but it will hold for another time.

I loved this.

I know you're right DS but it's still sad in so many ways.

Hi Lori
Yep, money and the cultivation of greed are at the bottom of most of it.
Thanks for the comment.

Seems peaceful. What did happen? Enjoyed.

Then my children are throwbacks     Haha... really, I hear ya, Eric. Can we blame the 60`s?  Trickle-down effect? Lol

There`s still some good kids out there, not to worry. And, I cannot help but be reminded of the old adage: `the older I get, the better I was`..!  (just kiddin ya!)

I`m only 41 but I adore (and uphold)  `old fashioned values`. Great write!

All my best~

Yes, Amaryllis there are some great kids out there today but they're stuck in this degrading enviroment of too much acceptance of all things and lack of discipline.
That doesn't mean they're not going to be decent and successful but it's a harder to fulfill ones needs today.
Increased security measures, can't leave kids outside to run freely because of all the illintentioned people out there these days.
Too many angles to really discuss but like you my 36 year old daughter has a great appreciation for the older moral guidelines, and I'm thankful. I think I should be!
Many thanks for the fine comments.

Yes, creative and thought provoking. Perhaps, a book could be written in answer to this, but at least one acceptable and relevant primary answer would be DS's response- we let it happen.

Hi Mike.
I guess you could call it a list verse.
Just came from the heart of an older guy like me.
I appreciate the kind comment.

Yep, I think DS nailed the reason albeit still so sad with school murders, work place murders and even in MacDonalds.
Statistics prove that unexplainable crime has increased at a greater percentage than the population growth.
I thank you for the visit and the comment.
