It doesn’t seem that long ago-
It’s just like yesterday…
That I was “going down the road”,
And made bull-riding pay.

Young and lean, without a care-
Thought I could ride them all,
But like cowboys before and since…
I was riding for a fall.

The days turned into weeks and months,
The months turned into years.
Those now forgotten broken bones,
The motel rooms and tears.

Relationships I never had,
And some that didn’t last…
I find that I am growing old,
And living in the past.

Another year has come and gone-
How many yet remain?
My memories are bitter-sweet,
As I balance loss with gain.

Perhaps I’ve learned a thing or two-
But what I find most strange,
In looking back, I cannot find,
A single thing I’d change.

John,

When I saw someone had been here before me - I knew it was Ida.  I can't think of a better person to share your poetry with.  Happy New Year - as you look back, I hang on every word you write.
