love is like a river
with rock walls too high, too slick to climb.
downstream there's a waterfall,
upstream there's crocodiles.

love is like a river
full of rocks you can't see
without swimming straight down,
holding your breath until your ears pop
your lungs begging mercy for air.

love is like a river,
it forces us to make a choice
between fighting crocodiles,
jumping off a waterfall
into writhing white,
or hitting our heads on the rocks,
and floating where we were supposed to go
and should have been all along.

Truly enjoyed your write. Hey, but the waterfall is fun!

There have been a lot of boulders and a few too many crockodiles in my river, longing for a quiet more rippling kind of stream right now, although I am holding my breath for I hear the waterfall roaring.

Love may be all these things but it is truely worth the risk!  Rich imagery is a standout in this piece.
